12 March, 2012

Baker & McKenzie clinched “Law Firm of the Year” for Southeast Asia and Thailand at the 2012 Chambers Asia Pacific Awards held in New Delhi on 28 February.

The Firm was also awarded “International Law Firm of the Year” for Employment and for Tax at the 2012 Chambers China Awards recently held in Beijing.

These awards honour outstanding law firms across the Asia Pacific region, reflecting their preeminence and notable achievements over the past 12 months, including outstanding work, strategic growth and excellence in client service.

Jeremy Pitts, Baker & McKenzie's Asia Pacific Regional Chairman, said, “These awards recognise our continued work in adding value to our clients’ businesses with our client-driven approach. They attest to our strength in assisting our clients in China, Singapore and Southeast Asia, and particularly in capitalising on opportunities in the emerging economies of Malaysia, the Philippines, Indonesia, Vietnam and Thailand. We thank our clients for the trust and confidence they place in us.”

Poh Lee Tan, Managing Partner for the Firm’s Hong Kong and China offices, said, “We are delighted to be recognized for our leadership in employment and tax, areas which continue to be top concerns for multinationals when they operate in China. These awards are testament to our strength in providing our clients with on-the-ground assistance to navigate the complex legal and business environment in China.”

Kitipong Urapeepatanapong, Chairman of Baker & McKenzie’s Bangkok office, said, “This is an extremely gratifying honour. We have been present in Thailand for more than three decades, fully supporting our clients’ business needs. They look to us to advise on some of the most important matters, including Thailand’s inaugural THB40 billion inflation-linked bond offering, TTM Sukuk Berhad’s issuance of RM600 million Secured Commodity Murabahan Sukuk and Ratchaburi Electricity Generating Holding’s AUD838 million acquisition of Transfield Services Infrastructure Fund. We thank Chambers Asia for this award, and our clients for engaging us for their most challenging assignments.”
