25 February, 2014

Bird & Bird announced that it has entered into a cooperation agreement with one of Korea’s law firms.

The cooperation agreement with Seoul based Hwang Mok Park is believed to be mutually beneficial for both firms. It will enable Hwang Mok Park to access Bird & Bird’s global network, while Bird & Bird will tap into Hwang Mok Park’s expertise in the Korean market. The combined skill set will also help the firms jointly develop new business.

Bird & Bird CEO David Kerr said: “We are very excited to be entering into the cooperation agreement with Hwang Mok Park. We are impressed with their track record in Korea where they have a strong base of multinational clients and a broad portfolio of interesting work. We have experienced a significant increase in client demand in the region and this agreement reflects our plans to develop an integrated Asia-Pacific offering.”

Justin Walkey, Chairman of Bird & Bird’s Asian region, added: “Bird & Bird and Hwang Mok Park share similar strategic aspirations and an innovative approach to client service. Korea’s advanced, technology-driven economy is a natural fit for Bird & Bird. I strongly believe that we can jointly offer our clients a unique proposition that combines the best of both firms, so we are delighted to welcome Hwang Mok Park to our expanding international network.”

Kun-Su Mok, Managing Partner of Hwang Mok Park said: “This cooperation agreement can be seen as a defining moment, not only for our firm but for the Korean legal market as well. The key to HMP’s decision in taking this major step has been our belief in the compatibility of our two firms – not only in terms of our client bases and service offerings, but more importantly in terms of our firm values. This is a critical element in any undertaking of this magnitude, and I believe that in the end our similar ideals will allow for a seamless blending of our firm cultures, resulting in greater benefit to our clients.”
