23 July, 2012

Mayer Brown JSM has appointed James Fong as partner in the Corporate & Securities practice. James has over 12 years of experience in handling a wide range of corporate finance transactions including Hong Kong IPOs, listing of exchange traded funds, block trades, rights issue, takeover, private equities, joint ventures and regulatory compliance.

James started his legal profession in 1998 at Johnson Stokes & Masters (which combined with Mayer Brown in 2008 to become Mayer Brown JSM), prior to joining Hogan Lovells where he became a partner in 2010.

Patrick Wong, partner and head of Corporate & Securities in Asia said: “I would like to welcome James to the recently expanded Corporate and Securities practice. As part of the strategic plan, the addition of James Fong, Henry Wang and Billy Au in Greater China will see our practice having a much more in-depth capability in ECM and M&A offerings. I look forward to having the new talents on board."

James added: "I am very excited to have the opportunity to work together with my old and new colleagues to further strengthen the ECM and Corporate practice. Mayer Brown JSM has a very long history in Hong Kong and Asia. With the firm’s vast experience in advising on capital markets and public M&A transactions, I am confident that our expanded team will be able to leverage its international network and platform to continue delivering premium services to clients in the region."

James' client praised him as "friendly" and "commercial minded", according to the Chambers Asia Pacific 2012 Client Guide.

He earned his LLB and PCLL from the University of Hong Kong and speaks English, Mandarin and Cantonese.
