3 October, 2011

Kennedys is pleased to announce that, as part of the continued growth of its Maritime and International Trade team in Singapore, Karnan Thirupathy has joined as partner in the maritime practice, which takes the team to seven lawyers. Karnan specialises in managing complex commercial disputes across Asia in shipping, international trade, insurance and oil and gas.

Robert Joiner, partner of Kennedys in Singapore, commented: “Karnan’s extensive experience in shipping, commodities and energy means he fits straight into the team here, with the added benefit of extending our client base in Indonesia and Malaysia. We are very much looking forward to working with him and developing the team even further”.

Qualified in England and Wales and an Advocate and Solicitor in Singapore, Karnan handles all aspects of “dry” shipping disputes – including disputes under charterparties, contracts of affreightment and bills of lading – and regularly acts for clients in shipping arbitrations in London, Hong Kong and Singapore.

Karnan said “I am gIad to be joining Kennedys at this exciting juncture. I look forward to working with my new colleagues and to contributing to the team’s further growth in Asia”.

Karnan is a member of the Maritime Law Association of Singapore and the Inter Pacific Bar Association. He is fluent in Malay.
