Baker & McKenzie has announced the election of 28 new partners in the Asia Pacific region and 63 new partners globally, effective 1 July 2012. This brings the total number of partners in the region to 346 and 1,400 globally. Attached is a copy of our press release about our global appointments.
 
The 28 new partner appointments in the Asia Pacific region span a range of transactional practices – Banking & Finance, Corporate, Mergers & Acquisitions and Securities – as well as providing clients with further specialist advisory support in Antitrust & Competition, Dispute Resolution, Employment, Energy, Mining & Infrastructure, Information Technology & Communications, Intellectual Property and Tax.

Antitrust & Competition
Clara Ingen-Housz focuses on global antitrust matters, with a particular focus on PRC and Hong Kong competition laws.  Her practice includes multi-jurisdictional merger filings, cartel investigations, dominant firm analysis, distribution structuring, compliance and private litigation. She splits her time between Hong Kong and Beijing.
 
Banking and Finance
Hao-Ray Hu focuses on M&A, as well as general corporate and commercial matters and financial and securities regulations. Hao-Ray is based in Taipei. 
 
Simon Leung focuses on structured finance, project and export credit loans and general banking matters, with a particular focus on cross-border PRC related financing transactions. Simon is based in Beijing. 
 
Theerapab Punyasakhon practices primarily in Banking & Finance and Major Projects, where he focuses on project finance, loans and credit facilities, financial restructuring/creditors rights, and real estate finance. Theerapab is based in Bangkok.
 
Benja Supannakul specialises in the areas of derivatives and structured finance, especially in regard to the laws and regulations issued by the Bank of Thailand and other laws governing the operation of banking and finance businesses, such as the Civil and Commercial Code, the Financial Institution Business Act, the Bankruptcy Act, and the Royal Decree on the Thai Asset Management Corporation. Benja is based in Bangkok.
 
Corporate and M&A
Winton Kim focuses on international mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, and energy and infrastructure development projects, particularly those which involve Korean companies conducting business in and outside of Korea. Winton is based in Hong Kong.
 
Enzo Pan is an M&A partner based in Taipei. Enzo advises on mergers and acquisitions of technology companies and financial institutions, and also on private equity and venture capital transactions. 
 
 
Bulin Sanooj advises on issues relevant to foreign investors, such as foreign investment laws, mergers and acquisitions, corporate structures, and commercial contracts. Bulin is based in Bangkok.
 
Hsian Song Yong's area of practice is in corporate and commercial law, with particular expertise in the areas of mergers and acquisitions, takeovers, venture capital, real estate transactions, corporate advisory matters and securities law. Hsian Song is with Wong & Partners, member firm of Baker & McKenzie in Kuala Lumpur.
 
Dispute Resolution
Miguel Galvez’s practice includes commercial, criminal and administrative litigation, arbitration, anti-bribery and anti-corruption compliance, and immigration. Miguel is with Quisumbing Torres, member firm of Baker & McKenzie in Manila.
 
Anna (Li-Jung) Hwang focuses on dispute resolution involving civil and criminal law, corporate and securities law, government procurement law and intellectual property laws, in particular patent law. Anna is based in Taipei.
 
Philippa Murphy is a Dispute Resolution & Litigation Partner based in Melbourne. She provides commercial litigation advice to clients across all sectors including those involved in the construction, engineering, mining, automotive and pharmaceutical industries.
 
Dominic Wai focuses on anti-corruption, white collar crime, law enforcement and regulatory matters in Hong Kong.  He also handles corporate litigation, shareholders’ disputes and insolvency matters, defamation cases, as well as property litigation.  Dominic is based in Hong Kong.
 
David Walter focuses on financial restructuring and insolvency, advising insolvency practitioners, secured lenders, debtors, trustee companies, hedge funds and private equity sponsors. David is based in Sydney.
 
Employment
Susie Beaumont has extensive experience in advising foreign and Indonesian corporations on a wide range of employment, corporate/commercial and construction-related matters. Susie is with Hadiputranto, Hadinoto & Partners, member firm of Baker & McKenzie in Jakarta.
 
Howard Shiu focuses on labour and employment laws, antitrust law, insurance law and dispute resolution.  He has considerable experience assisting and representing local and foreign corporations in labour and employment matters. Howard is based in Taipei.
 
Energy, Mining & Infrastructure
Muhammad Karnova is a natural resources lawyer and primarily practices in the area of mining-related mergers, acquisitions, restructurings and investments. He is also experienced in providing regulatory advice on operational contracts for mining -related assignments. Muhammad is with Hadiputranto, Hadinoto & Partners, member firm of Baker & McKenzie in Jakarta.
 
Ean Mac Pherson has extensive corporate and commercial experience and specialises in advising on mining acquisitions and joint ventures, project work and project finance. Ean is based in Tokyo.
 
Daniel Middleton is a Construction Partner based in Melbourne. He has extensive experience in drafting and negotiating contracts for the design, construction and procurement of major projects and the subsequent operation, maintenance, leasing and sale of those assets. 
 
Intellectual Property
Nont Horayangura is an IP lawyer in Bangkok. His IP advisory practice encompasses all aspects of intellectual property issues, in particular planning cross-border anti-infringement campaigns, patent prosecution and trade mark registration. Nont is also active in the information technology and communications practice group through which he advises clients on issues related to IT and telecommunications regulatory issues, construction and acquisition of telecommunication towers and equipment, international roaming, outsourcing, support and maintenance services, content supply through mobile phone communication systems, e-commerce, advertising laws, data protection and privacy.
 
Angeline Lee is head of the intellectual property rights registration team in Baker & McKenzie.Wong & Leow, member firm of Baker & McKenzie in Singapore. Her practice covers non-contentious IP with particular focus on the prosecution of trade marks, patents and designs registrations. 
 
Kei Matsumoto primarily handles intellectual property transactions and domestic and international patent disputes. He also has considerable experience in dispute resolution cases inside and outside the courts as well as corporate/M&A-related cases. Kei is based in Tokyo.
 
IT & Communications
Anna Gamvros focuses on issues in the IT and communications sectors, providing multi-jurisdictional advice on licensing and technology agreements, outsourcing, privacy and data protection and telecommunications and internet regulatory issues.  Anna is based in Hong Kong.
 
Securities
Iqbal Darmawan has extensive experience in advising capital market transactions and mergers and acquisitions involving public companies. Iqbal is with Hadiputranto, Hadinoto & Partners, member firm of Baker & McKenzie in Jakarta.
 
Tax
Pierre Chan focuses on Hong Kong and regional tax planning, stamp duty, wealth management and succession planning, as well as tax controversy and litigation matters. Pierre is based in Hong Kong.
 
Panya Sittisakonsin specialises in tax and customs advice from both a planning and a compliance perspective. Panya is based in Bangkok.
 
Allen Tan has extensive experience working on both regional and local tax issues, with special focus on regional tax aspects of the transactions he is involved in. His practice also includes advising clients on tax issues arising from mergers and acquisitions, private equity and hedge fund structuring, indirect taxes, transfer taxes, tax controversies, foreign direct investment and cross-border tax planning issues.
