The Marine Safety (Domestic Commercial Vessels) Act 2012 ("Marine Safety Act") recently received Royal Assent.
On Thursday 20 September 2012, the Australia Maritime Safety Authority ("AMSA") announced that draft regulations and Marine Orders under the Marine Safety Act are now available for public comment. The consultation draft of the regulations and Marine Orders can be found at the AMSA website.
The regulations deal with key definitions and transitional arrangements, while the Marine Orders set out the processes and requirements for national certificates, vessel identification, approved training organisations and administrative requirements. AMSA has also released an explanatory guide to these proposed regulations and Marine Orders.
Submissions to the consultation drafts will be accepted until 8 October 2012 and can be submitted at the AMSA website.
