The Victorian Government is considering introducing new legislation that would regulate the availability of R18+ games in Victoria.
A Bill, which is currently before Parliament, would limit access of R18+ computer games to adults, and would introduce a variety of offences in regards to demonstrating, advertising and selling the games.
The Victorian Bill follows the Federal Government’s move in passing legislation that created R18+ computer games, a new classification, effective from 1 January 2013. The Victorian Bill was well overdue given an adult classification system exists in other States and many other countries, and submissions regarding the proposal received an overwhelming 98% approval rating in 2009.
