Baker & McKenzie Expands Its Team In Yangon With Two Senior Hires.

5 May, 2015

Baker & McKenzie has further strengthened its team in Yangon with the appointment of Ola Nicolai Borge as partner. He joined the Firm on 1 May 2015 from Grant Thornton Myanmar where he was the managing partner. Ola has 15 years of experience in international tax as a tax and legal advisor.

U Than Maung joined the team as senior associate earlier this year. He has expertise in all aspects of Myanmar law and legal practice, including in corporate and intellectual property matters. Prior to joining Baker & McKenzie, U Than Maung worked with a regional law firm based in Yangon for almost 20 years and before that was with the Myanmar Attorney General’s office.

Commenting on the recent expansion of the Firm’s team in Myanmar, Chris Hughes, Managing Partner of the Yangon office, said: “We are delighted to welcome Ola and U Than Maung to the Firm. They each have a wealth of experience working with companies investing in Myanmar and an excellent understanding of key regulators and regulatory processes. The Yangon office has been going from strength to strength since it was set up in February last year, and the additions of Ola and U Than Maung further bolster our international and Myanmar law offering on the ground to help our clients expand their business in this fast-growing market. We are looking to add further senior talent in the future to help meet the demand we are experiencing for high quality representation on novel and complex matters in this time of immense change.”

Ola added: “I’m excited to be joining Baker & McKenzie and be part of its strong team in Yangon, which has established itself as a trusted adviser for companies doing business with Myanmar. The Firm has a longstanding presence in Southeast Asia and across Asia Pacific, and I look forward to working with my colleagues from Baker & McKenzie’s global network of offices to help companies structure their investments in Myanmar and take advantage of the many investment opportunities on offer.”
