Conventus Law recently celebrated its 2nd anniversary at the Maritime Museum of Hong Kong. A cocktail reception was organised for VIPs, members, and friends of the company as a thank you for all their support over the past two years.

The guests had many positive things to say about the venue, the setting, and the company they found themselves in.

Vincent Connor, Managing Partner of Pinsent Masons said, “I think it’s always difficult in Hong Kong to find a place that’s unique and different and memorable and I think Conventus Law has done it on this occasion”, and Gareth Hughes, partner at Ashurst said the venue was a “perfect setting”.

Conventus Law is a legal networking and media platform aimed at connecting in-house Counsel with the very best private practitioners in Hong Kong. Having said this, Conventus Law is useful for professionals in any industry as anyone can go to the website to look up legal analyses, search for an appropriate legal advisor, search the events calendar or view videos, and users can be confident the contacts and information they find there are of the highest quality.

Many of the guests had success stories to share about what Conventus Law has done for them over the past two years.

Connor explained, “As ever there are many, many sources of intelligence about what is happening in the market and it’s really critical to get stuff which is up to date and on point and I think Conventus has done very well at pulling together a number of observers of the market and getting material that is very relevant, very sharp and also very useful for users whether they be external lawyers, whether they be in-house lawyers, and that’s a good combination.”

Andrew Keith, Chief Operating Officer of Deacons also shared his experience of Conventus Law and how it has been useful for his firm, saying, “Conventus Law is a great partner to work with. It gives us access to a number of different new areas that perhaps we don’t necessarily have the ability to reach… it’s a great area, a great opportunity for us to build our brand much more broadly in Hong Kong.”

Whilst Conventus Law is a business and profit-making enterprise, Stephen Lai, Managing Director of Conventus Law is very aware that he and his company need to be good corporate citizens. General Counsel at CITIC Bank, Roy Huang, who is also a Board Member of the charity, Viva, was on hand at the cocktail party to tell VIPs and guests about Viva’s relationship with Conventus Law. Huang explained, “Conventus… has been our partner for the last two years. The founder Stephen knows our national co-directors, Rob and Christine Lilwall and from the very first day Stephen told me that he wanted to reserve the banner on the Conventus Law website for the charitable causes that he was really interested in and involved in and very fortunately for us and for Viva we are now on his website. So we have had a very close relationship over the last two years and thanks to Stephen, he has just been a great supporter”.

Lai rounded up the evening with a toast and explained the company’s vision “Two years ago, when we started Conventus Law, all we wanted to do was to make it easier for businesses investing in Asia understand and to overcome the legal challenges facing them. I believed we could make a difference and add value in this area.  We designed a platform that focuses on quality,  easy to use and provides easy access to advisors.  We hope that when our partners and members use our media platform, whether it’s for looking up legal analysis, looking for an advisor, attending our networking events or viewing our videos, they are confident the contacts and information is of the highest quality.  We love what we do at Conventus Law and I am excited about developments in technology and how this may help us serve the legal community.”
