Gregory Tan is a partner in the Business Department of Morrison & Foerster and is resident in the firm’s Shanghai office.  Mr. Tan regularly represents U.S.- and Asia-based clients in a wide range of complex commercial transactions, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, foreign direct investments, project finance and corporate restructuring.  He specializes in counseling multinational corporations, particularly in China, in foreign direct investments, strategic alliances, and in-bound mergers and acquisitions.  Over the years, he has also developed expertise in the sale, acquisition, and development of real estate and other infrastructure projects.  


Mr. Tan has spent numerous years working as international counsel to clients and is highly experienced in blending international law firm experience with local market practices to offer effective and practical solutions to legal problems.  Listed as a leading lawyer in the IFLR 1000 2011, Mr. Tan is recognized as having a “high level of professionalism” and is “very practical and solution-oriented.”  Mr. Tan graduated from the University of Bristol in England with an LL.B., with honors, and started his legal career in the Supreme Court of Singapore as a justices’ law clerk, clerking principally for the Chief Justice and the court of appeal judges.  He is admitted to the bars in England and Wales, the Singapore bar, and the New York bar.
