Mayer Brown JSM announced the appointment of Hao Yang, who joins Mayer Brown JSM as a Consultant in the Hong Kong office as part of the firm's strategy of enhancing its global capital markets and M&A practices.

Hao joins Mayer Brown JSM from the Beijing office of Davis Polk & Wardwell where he primarily focused on equity capital markets, high-yield debt, M&A and private equity transactions. Previously he was with Sullivan & Cromwell's Hong Kong office where he focused on US securities matters. Before entering private practice, Hao also worked for the PRC Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Beijing and New York for five years.

"We are delighted to have Hao on board. He is a significant addition to our firm and a key hire for our global capital markets practice in particular," said Mark Uhrynuk, a corporate partner of Mayer Brown in the firm's Hong Kong office. "Adding Hao to our team in Asia reflects our ongoing strategy to enhance our cross-border capital markets capabilities by deepening resources in key markets."

"Hao has extensive industry knowledge and understanding of the US, Hong Kong and PRC markets, which will reinforce our cross-jurisdictional practice particularly in the equity capital markets space with our investment banking clients," added Jason T. Elder, a partner of Mayer Brown and a Registered Foreign Consultant (New York, USA) of Mayer Brown JSM based in Hong Kong.

"I'm thrilled to have this opportunity to work within such a high-calibre team and I look forward to helping to grow the firm's Corporate and Securities practice," said Hao Yang.

Hao earned his BA in English Literature at Peking University in 1995 and his JD cum laude at Northwestern University in 2004. He also holds a Master's degree in International Policy from George Washington University (2001).
