India – Clinical Trials Stalled For Two Months.

19 February, 2013

The office of the Drugs Controller General of India has on January 23, 2013 reportedly announced that no fresh approvals to conduct clinical trials in India would be granted for atleast the next two months. The MoHFW expects to frame the regulations for supervising the clinical trials in the meantime. This announcement seems to be pursuant to the directions passed by the Supreme Court, while hearing a public interest litigation filed by an NGO Swasthya Adhikar Manch, that all clinical trials should be conducted under the supervision of the Union Health Secretary. An earlier article reported on the pending Supreme Court case.
