Kirkland & Ellis represented Qihoo 360 Technology Co. Ltd. (NYSE: QIHU), a leading Internet company in China, in forming a strategic partnership with Hong Kong-listed Coolpad Group Limited (HKSE: 2369), a leading smartphone company in China, by investing US$409.05 million in Coolpad Ecommerce Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Coolpad, for a 45% equity interest.

The joint venture will primarily focus on mobile terminal products distributed through Internet as the primary channel.  The transaction was signed on December 16, 2014.

The Kirkland team was led by Hong Kong corporate partners David Zhang and Frank Sun, and included Hong Kong corporate partner Jamii Quoc and Chicago intellectual property partner Min Wang.
