Malaysia – Competition Commission (“MyCC”) Fines 26 Ice Manufacturers For Price Fixing.

14 April, 2014

On 20 February 2014, the MyCC issued its Proposed Decision (“PD”) to fine 26 ice manufacturers a total of RM 283,600, with proposed financial penalties for each manufacturer ranging from RM 1,200 to RM 106,000, for allegedly fixing the selling prices of edible tube ice and block ice in Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Putrajaya. Before issuing the PD, the MyCC had, on 21 January 2014, issued interim measures to the ice manufacturers seeking to prevent them from acting in accordance with their plan – announced through local newspapers in December 2013 – to collectively increase the price of edible tube ice by RM 0.50 per bag and RM 2.50 per block from 1 January 2014.
