Firm Profile

Morrison & Foerster was one of the first international law firms to be licensed in Japan, when we opened our Tokyo office in 1987. Today, the firm is the largest and most diversified international law firm in Japan, and includes the Japan admitted lawyers of the Registered Associated Offices of Ito & Mitomi, who work side-by-side with Morrison & Foerster attorneys.

Our Tokyo-based attorneys are highly experienced in key industry sectors, including computer products and peripherals, semiconductors, software, life sciences, information technology, telecommunications, and financial services.

Morrison & Foerster is the only global firm with a dedicated team of U.S. trial lawyers on the ground in Japan. We have broad experience in IP disputes, adversarial patent licensing negotiations, and general commercial litigation, in which we handle everything from consumer class action and product defect claims, to major construction disputes. Our U.S. and Japan-qualified litigators represent clients in commercial and intellectual property litigation in courts, before administrative agencies, and in arbitration venues in Japan. Our extensive internal investigation experience includes alleged accounting misstatements, product mislabeling, construction defects, and matters involving possible corrupt practices under the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act (FCPA). We are recognized as a Tier 1 firm by Chambers Global, Chambers Asia, Asia Pacific Legal 500, and Asian Legal Business for dispute resolution.
