On 16th February and 29th March, Drew & Napier Dispute Resolution director Hri Kumar Nair SC hosted seminars on legal professional privilege enjoyed by in-house counsel.
The full-house seminars attracted close to a total of 180 in-house counsel and senior management from banks, MNCs, government agencies, and other industries. Attendees praised Hri’s clear explanation and insightful experience of the issue.
The Evidence (Amendment) Bill (“Bill”), which was introduced in Parliament on 16 January 2012 and passed on 14 February 2012, sought to clarify the Evidence Act and extend legal professional privilege to in-house counsel and public officers working as legal counsel. Hri dealt with the amendments and landmark cases so that in-house counsel could understand when the privilege attaches, how best to preserve privilege and possible problems that may be encountered.
